Lost Weekend 02:03
Like sparks thru the stubble Gen X reject Monopoly of farce One two three four What is a break with nothing to fill it What is the anxiety of the need for time killing What is weekend that needs a white flag As you white knuckle through the hours that drag Losing sight of Finland Station Losing it, a lost weekend What is the reason if it’s not our fault To drown old traumas in the hope we’ve bought What is the reason if not a lack in the gut To bring down the walls or bore a hole in what’s shut Losing sight of Finland Station Losing it, a lost weekend Begging to be toppled By children of Marx and La Croix Your irony is more naïve One two three

Honest Ed's 03:32
I hear only the parts of your voice Just the words that cut through the frost I hear only the parts of your voice That don’t dwell on what’s been lost Walk the square we took for granted Didn’t think you’d miss this shit Walk the square that we took for granted Masked and anonymous in Christie Pits Faster than you could say “It is what it is” I could power the sign over Honest Eds With the energy from this resentment There it is in black and white Or there it is in ones and zeros You take it back but not that you meant it Which is why we gotta say cheerio Robbed of my sour freeze out Silence only if it’s noticed Affection falls out into the void Live with the shame and jump to the next focus Faster than you could say “it is what it is” I could power the sign over Honest Eds With the energy from this resentment The cords are tangled The cords are tangled and I’m tired

No Capital 02:13
Fretting fearing the end of the thing It’s already happened, it’s already happened Fearing the worst, thinking you’re cursed It’s already happened, it’s already happened We live here Here in the mess No capital No nothing at all What do you think, fragmented rant It wasn’t affecting it wasn’t affecting You say that we can when I know that we can’t Overreacting, posturing, acting Like chemicals in a pool (We live in it) No capital No nothing at all
4.
After Hours 03:00
Thinking back before the world ended I laugh thinking of time suspended The Greater Good after hours Lights and noise and ales and sours We got harassed on Dufferin Street Jocks’ laughter as the tires screech I never knew you had the stuff Where does that energy come from? Hey, where do ideas come from? Or anything that’s worth doing for fun? And why’s it take so long to do? I valued my freedom true Wasn’t looking - the periphery I missed you in the periphery You pulled a knife from your invisible backpack With designs to stab in the back with that At one time I didn’t want to grow up At one time I didn’t want to grow up But these days being young must suck But these days being young must suck

Cherry blossoms rotting Rat traps in the alleyways I used to keep an eye for you Before you cut and run away No impression overwrites No more buzzing in twilight Whatever’s left soon to forget A good dog. Fresh baguette What follows such A sickly spring? Of brewery metal And taped up swings Empty platforms, vacant trams Sleepless silence and milligrams No impression overwrites No more buzzing in twilight Probably a welcome overstayed Where rotting cherry blossoms lay Probably a welcome overstayed Where rotting cherry blossoms lay

about

PANIC BODIES are snappy garage punk, little hints of classic punk melody (remember how OBSERVERS dropped the hooks in but still sounded punk as shit? Yeah…like that), super bright and guitar-driven power punk. Choice cut “After Hours” starts to veer into hard and steady dark punk territory, which I fully endorse. Sounds timeless…because, well, I suppose many of us have the time these days.

From Toronto comes a solid demo of ’80s HXC sound and structure without being contrived. Gone are the shitty HXC shortcuts. There are a lot of clever riffs mined in a short runtime. The chorus of “Honest Ed’s” is driven by wicked East Bay Ray style-discordance. There’s a nice minimalist solo in play as well. “No Capital” gets trickier while maintaining a tinge of punks-at-the-beach vibe. “Sickly Spring” ends the tape with a slow number hovering in the arena of better early Dischord slow jams. Five songs and no clunkers. It sounds good without feeling overproduced. There’s a bit of Wipers in there as well. Really great demo for your boombox.
